Despite being in England with sixty other soldiers, at no stage of the story does X socialize with any of his fellow soldiers. In any case I find Salinger’s writing style very entertaining. We know xnd because the story begins in that future in which the narrator is restored to the first person — still alive, still married, still writing, still eager to pass on the lessons he has learned.
